About us

Mortgage Medics was established by Sam Murphy and Jon Bloomfield in 2007.  Their mission from the outset was simple –

“To provide quality independent advice and outstanding service, which is in your best interests and free from conflicts of interest.”

We love mortgages and we love helping people achieve their ambitions.  As such, we’re proud to say that we put care and honesty before profits. We adopt a whole of market approach, rather than choosing to deal with a small panel of companies. This means that we deal with all available providers when advising you about a mortgage or protection contract, including exclusive deals not available on the high street, and of course we won’t charge you for an initial consultation.

So whether you’re considering your first purchase, remortgaging, or even an experienced Buy-to-Let landlord, we have the experience, skills and determination to get the job done, and get it done well – from initial advice, to picking up the keys.

It's the people that make the business

  • Sam Murphy Managing Director

    Sam Murphy

    Managing Director

Sam was one of the founders of Mortgage Medics in 2007 and now oversees day to day operations at the company’s two offices in Brighton & Hove. Sam started his career with The Woolwich in 2002, where at the age of 19 he became something few teenagers with any street cred dream of being – a mortgage adviser. Immediately prior to Mortgage Medics, Sam spent 3 successful years as an independent mortgage adviser with an estate agency network, where he was inspired to create a place that thought differently about mortgage advice.

As a lifelong Charlton Athletic supporter, Sam grew up with an ingrained underdog spirit and continues to try his hand at most sports whilst managing to excel at none. He learned to snowboard when he was 16 and is happiest sat at the top of a mountain with a board strapped to his feet.

Qualifications held: Certificate in Mortgage Advice & Practice (CeMAP), Certificate in Equity Release (CeER), Advanced Mortgage Advice (R07)

  • Emma Ennion Client Services Manager

    Emma Ennion

    Client Services Manager

Emma joined Mortgage Medics in 2009 after taking a break from a long and successful career as an estate agent, to start a family. Emma’s role involves liaising with clients and all parties to ensure that matters are concluded as quickly and efficiently as possible. She also heads up office discipline to keep the men in their place and is partial to giant iced coffee, whatever the weather. Thanks to Emma’s experience in estate agency and her tenacious personality, she knows the process inside out and how to get things done.

If you call the office you’ll probably get through to Emma initially, and if you have an application in progress she’ll keep you in the picture, with regular updates.

  • Jon Bloomfield Associate Director

    Jon Bloomfield

Following a 5 year career in retail banking with Nat West, Jon began working in Financial Services in 1984 when he joined Pearl Assurance, gaining a good grounding in all areas of insurance, before concentrating on mortgage and protection advice in 1989. Having gained his Financial Planning Certificate (FPC) in 1995, Jon has been offering independent mortgage and protection advice ever since, building up a loyal and trusting client base who come back to him time and time again.

In his spare time Jon manages a veteran’s football team and maintains that next year will be ‘their year’.

  • Ben Murphy Associate Director

    Ben Murphy

    Associate Director

Ben joined his brother Sam at Mortgage Medics at the start of 2013, following a long and successful career in corporate sales and marketing within the IT/Telecoms and Automotive sectors. Having previously worked for giants including BT, BMW & Mercedes, Ben is well used to recommending individual solutions, tailored to clients’ needs on a large and small scale, and is very much relieved that making tea for his colleagues is now a much less daunting challenge. Ben relished the chance to enter the financial services sector, particularly so that he could get back working with individuals to help achieve their goals.

Despite being a Spurs fan, Ben is a keen sportsman, and whilst his days playing football may be few and far between these days, he’s a qualified Snowboard Instructor and currently learning how to Kitesurf in his spare time.

    Steve Prole

Steve has always had a way with numbers and demonstrated this when he graduated from the University of Sussex with a First Class Degree in Mathematics. He joined Mortgage Medics in 2014, having spent the previous few years with a local firm of financial advisers where he studied, qualified and practised as a mortgage adviser.

Steve is Brighton born and bred and outside of work is an accomplished drummer and keen skateboarder, making him the trendiest member of the team by a country mile (just don’t tell Emma!)

Qualifications held: Certificate in Mortgage Advice & Practice (CeMAP), Advanced Mortgage Advice (R07), Certificate in Equity Release (CeER)

  • Michael Curd Senior Adviser

    Michael Curd

    Senior Adviser

Mike joined Mortgage Medics in 2016 having spent the previous 10 years working his way up through the ranks in locations across Sussex for the UK’s largest building society. Having started off as a cashier, Mike spent several years as a personal banking manager, branch manager and finally mortgage adviser. Mike shares our passion for giving great advice and after becoming master of his trade working for a lender, he set his sights on becoming a whole of market, independent adviser to put his skills to the test.

Outside of work, Mike is a keen footballer (albeit a Spurs fan), recently married and having moved home no less than four times in recent years, if you’re considering some home improvements, Mike can probably give you some tips.

Outside of work Lucy is a keen gym-goer and devoted mum – we don’t know how she finds the energy!

  • Gareth Jones Mortgage & Protection Adviser

    Gareth Jones

    Mortgage & Protection Adviser

Gareth joined Mortgage Medics in early 2017, having previously worked for NatWest as both a personal banker and mortgage adviser.
